Gear Review: SOG SEAL Strike Specialty Knife

When I went shopping for a knife (both in store and online) I knew I wanted a fixed, partially serrated blade that I could take with me on camping and use for multiple purposes.  I wanted to keep my budget under $150 (knives can sometimes be easily lost), yet have a dependable knife that could take a beating.  Introducing the SOG SEAL Strike Specialty Knife!

Made from AUS-8 stainless steal, I've used this knife from cutting food to cutting metal.  The tack sharp blade allows for endless possibilities.  In addition to the knife being rugged, its surprisingly light in weight; a perfect addition to a backpacking trip without compromising your back.

In addition to the knife, it also comes in a super ridged hard nylon sheath.  The deluxe model's sheath (pictured above) also features a built-in cord cutter, blade sharpener, and a firestarter (in case you are really s.o.l. in the jungle).  Talk about having everything!

So here are the tech specs:

  • Overall Length 9.6"
  • Product Weight 5.60 oz
  • Blade Length 4.9"
  • Blade Thickness 0.16"

COST: $127

Oh and don't forget that SOG has a lifetime warranty guaranteed against defects in workmanship and materials on their products!

Bottom Line: If you are a hunter, hiker, backpacker, fisherman or any thing else that falls under the "outdoors" category, this knife might be for you.  While it is more expensive that similar knives out there (you can also pay a lot more for similar knives), you ultimately get what you pay for.  If you are searching for a fixed blade knife, check out the SOG SEAL Strike!
